The making process of a handcrafted jewel
Each jewel comes into being with complete attention, a place where time, material, and idea converge in a process that cannot be rushed.
As a jewellery designer and maker, I work with traditional techniques to create unique jewellery in gold, silver and gemstones.
Consciously taking time is not a limitation, but a luxury in itself, it ensures that every piece retains its own character, balance, and soul.
Beginning with attention
Every process starts with observation and listening. Not to trends or fixed ideas, but to what presents itself: a gemstone, a thought, a question, or a moment seeking form.
I avoid fixing this beginning too quickly. Openness is essential to my way of working.
Slowness as a method
By slowing down, space emerges for nuance, doubt, and direction.
Designing by hand
Designing does not happen behind a computer screen, but by sketching by hand.
From pencil sketches of the first ideas, through technical details, and ultimately to a fully worked-out gouache.
What a gouache is
A gouache is a hand-painted, full-scale blueprint of a jewel, defining metals, stones, textures, and light. It forms a step between idea and object.
From drawing to object
Once a direction becomes clear, the process moves into making. Materials are chosen, studied, and worked. Form arises not by force, but by responding to what the material allows.
Making is a dialogue between hand and material, with continuous refinement.
Visible decisions
Every detail, every joint, every finish is a decision, not only technical, but also poetic.
Time as part of the work
Time is not a constraint, but an active component of the process. Some works emerge in short, intense periods; others require time.
This open relationship with time allows a piece to grow into what it truly wants to be.
No rush, no repetition
Each work follows its own rhythm, with no fixed schedule.
Completion and release
Ultimately, jewels are created to be worn, but also to be cherished and passed on. They are objects that withstand the passage of time and deepen in meaning over the years.
